Bismillahirrahmanirrahim..Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh..:)
Believe it or not, most people are inches away from their dreams. Too near. But they gave up. Everyone has dreams and it doesn't have to be logical or must physical-based. I am a dwarf but I have a giant's dream. I seek adventure, so I am worthy to be called as a men and from then I will promote peace and wisdom to the world. Sound impossible, right? But, there is no one has the right to say that your dreams are rubbish.
Still, even staunch in my dreams, I have ups and downs. Sometimes I am very spirited, on the cloud nine but sometimes my emotions are at the bottom of the Earth with Titanic shipwreck. I seek inspiration. Then, according to Allah's supreme and complete design, I came across with a book entitled "The Alchemist". The paperback cover illustrated a pyramid background with a silver caption; "A Fable Following Your Dreams". Without further delay, I bought the book.
Is it wrong for us to learn from a non-Muslim? I believe no. Inspiration is something very hard to find in Muslim literature nowadays. In Malaysia, you can see heaps of romance and erotic novels that portrays the charming of a men and the striking women that did not exist at all in real world! Those complete figures in the novel planted severe false image inside youngster's mind. They seek their own perfect Prince Charming and Cinderella, which never exists. Many failed to understand this, and life is a black void for them. Pathetic.
Paulo Coelho's introduction-the author of the book-gives us a useful hint why most of humans quit in pursuing their dreams. Word written in Italics are taken wholly from the text, in normal font is my own elaboration.
What is a personal calling? It is a God's blessing, it is the path that God chose for you here on Earth. Whenever we do something that fillls with enthusiasm, we are following or legend. However, we don't all have the courage to confront our own dream. Why?
There are four obstacles.
First, we are told from childhood onward that everything we want to do is impossible. We grow up with this idea, and as the years accumulate, so too do the layers of prejudice, fear and guilt. There comes a time when our personal calling is so deeply buried in our soul as to be invincible. But, it is still there.
Sound familiar? The world nowadays are so clung into rationality and logic until finally they become normal. Eat, drink, reproduce and die. That's all. Is this why Allah created us? To be ordinary? Out of millions sperms (sorry), He destined that you are the chosen one to live in this world, just to be ordinary? Come on, Allah send us in this world to be extraordinary, to be SPECIAL.
Whether you are short, tall, handsome, ugly, smart, dim, don't care about this. Adjectives is relative, it is not absolute. When people say you are ugly, maybe in another eyes you are handsome and dashing. The pessimism of the world keep pulling us down. A few words, actually pulling us down. And, we do nothing just agree to a pessimist's narrowed view and let yourself to be ordinary. Pessimism is the new religion in the world. And, it is destroying mankind.
If we have the courage to disinter our dream, we are then faced by the second obstacle: love. We know what we want to do, but are afraid of hurting those around us by abandoning everything in order to pursue our dream. We do not realize that love is just a further impetus, a stimulus, not something that will prevent us going forward, and that those who genuinely wish us well want us to be happy and are prepared to accompany us on that journey.
Many people came to me and complaint, "I love him, but he did not love me". "Thinking of him/her, makes me unrest and unproductive". Dear brother and sister, that is not LOVE. That is obsession. Love is a sacred things that bind our parents together and produce a jewel of the world which is YOU.
Love is a beacon. When you are struck by a hurricane in the sea of live, that beacon will keep you alive and rejuvenated. And, love is not just a romantic relationship between two different gender. Love includes our feelings toward our parents, friends, society, the poor and disabled and to the world. Why, when a popular man did not even stare at you then you feel like the whole world has forsaken you? Why, my brothers and sisters?
I found my strength through love. A mentor of mine, Brother Shahrul Hafiz instilled a very loving figure to me that I too gained my strength through visions of love and hope. When I was down, I wrote the names of my future sons; Sidi Umar Mukhtar, Sidi Afkar Zaidani. They will exist or not, it is a second matter, as all of us do not know about the future. But, please fight for it. Fight for a brighter future.
Once we have accepted that love is a stimulus, we come up against the third obstacle; fear of the defense we will meet in the path. We who fight for our dream suffer far more when it doesn't work out, because we cannot fall back on the old excuse, "Oh, well, I did not really want it anyway". We do want it and know that we have staked everything on it and that the path of the personal calling is no easier than any other path, except that our whole heart is in the journey.
Then we warriors of light must be prepared to have patience in difficult times and to know that the Universe is conspiring in our favor, even tough we may not understand how.
Do you want to know a secret? The secret is Allah is not deaf. He is All-Hearing but He really wants to make sure if you are worthy for your prayers to be granted. Some people they get anything easily, did not appreciate it and they were backlashed. Destroyed. Condemned. Such the likes of Pharaoh. Qarun and Nimrod.
If you have prayed, and it seemed to be ungranted, patience. Nova Roma is not built in a day. Your life, also is not ended in SPM, your love story or any failures in your life.
I ask myself: are defeats necessary? well, necessary or not, they happen. When we first begin fighting for our dream, we have no experience and make many mistakes. The secret of life, though, is to fall 7 times and to get up 8 times.
So, why it is so important to live our personal calling if we are only going to suffer more than other people? Because once we have overcome the defers-and we always do- we are filled with a greater sense of euphoria and confidence. In the silence of our hearts, we know that we are proving ourselves worthy of the miracle of life.
Having disinterred our dream, having used the power of love to nurture ut and spent many years living with the scars, we suddenly notice that we always wanted is there, waiting for us, perhaps the next day. Then comes the fourth obstacle; the fear of realizing the dream for which we have been fighting all our lives.
Oscar Wilde said, "Each man kills he thing he love". And it is true.
The mere possibility of getting what we want fills the soul of the ordinary person with guilt. We look around at all those who have failed to get what they want and feel that we do not deserve to get what we want either. We forget about all all the obstacles we overcame, all the suffering we endured, all the things we had to give up in order to get this far.
This is the path towards realizing your dream.
Heeding the call to dreams.
Everything seemed impossible. But, you endured.
Then, love came. It confused you, seduced you with its beauty and charming. BUt, you know what true love means.
As you progressed through you path, you meet with defeats. You lose your loved ones, your belongings and trust. But, you know that's how Allah do His work. By, giving his believer trials and tribulations so they will be a stronger man.
You have reached your destination. You started to feel cozy, drunk in its indulgences. You started to forget and commit grave. Then, everything seemed to playback.
You suffer more and more defeats. It became unbearable.
More love and seduction came. You are desperate in the struggle, accepts all the lavicious smile that you considered id "love". No, it is not love. They are snakes.
Everything seemed impossible now.
You are at the bottom of the world. You read back the words above and all is left is, regret.
This is destiny of a human if he forgets his creator. Beware, that all of us is from Allah and to Allah we will return..:)
in sha Allah
